About Cat Wilds
Wildlife Rehabilitation
My name is Catherine “Cat” Wysoczanski, and I am a permitted Florida wildlife rehabilitator serving the Jacksonville area. My journey began in 2020, when I took in my first orphaned squirrels. I quickly realized how deeply this work spoke to me — the long nights, the tiny lives depending on you, the joy of watching them grow strong enough for release.
It didn’t take long for me to discover my true passion: raccoons. Their intelligence, sensitivity, and big personalities completely won me over. I shifted my focus to specialize in their care and now rehabilitate raccoons from neonates with umbilical cords still attached all the way to injured or displaced adults.
In 2022, I earned my official Florida Wildlife Rehabilitation permit, allowing me to expand my work, improve my enclosures, and help more animals safely and ethically.
Who I Am
I’m a mom, a senior caregiver, a writer, and someone who has always had a soft spot for the overlooked and vulnerable — both human and animal. Wildlife rehabilitation allows me to pour that compassion into something meaningful every single day.
Over the years, I’ve learned proper husbandry, nutrition, developmental stages, medical basics, outdoor conditioning, and release protocols. And while I operate as a small, home-based rehab, I am incredibly grateful for the support of local rehabbers with much larger organizations. Their guidance, encouragement, and willingness to share knowledge have shaped me into the rehabilitator I am today. I’m thankful every day to have such experienced and generous people in my corner.
What I Believe In
-
Compassionate Care: Every animal deserves respect, proper handling, and a peaceful environment to heal.
-
Education First: Many animals brought to rehab don’t actually need intervention. Teaching the public how to recognize true distress saves wildlife every day.
-
Ethical Rehabilitation: My goal is always release — teaching wild animals to be wild so they can thrive where they belong.
-
Community & Collaboration: Rehab takes a village. Even though I work alone, I’m supported by an incredible network of rehabbers, donors, and caring community members who make this mission possible.
Why It Matters
Rehabilitation is not just about saving one animal at a time — it’s about protecting our ecosystem, preventing unnecessary suffering, and helping families navigate confusing wildlife encounters with compassion and accurate guidance.
Every bottle fed, every wound cleaned, every scared baby who learns to climb, and every release back into the woods is a reminder of why I do this.
Thank you for supporting Cat Wild’s Wildlife Rehabilitation.
Your kindness truly helps save lives. 🦝💚
